Holiday Giving

Every year, the Joseph House helps low-income families celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas by giving away turkeys, toys, and gifts. Listed below are donations that we need. We greatly appreciate your help!

Announcements for 2025

Thanksgiving Food

Frozen turkeys for Thanksgiving are needed by November 23.

We also need items for our holiday food bags that are given out at both Thanksgiving and Christmas: small bottles of cooking oil, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper, assorted seasonings and spices, small bags of flour, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, hot cocoa mix, mini marshmallows, candy canes, aluminum foil, and baking spray.

Other non-perishable food items are needed year-round and can be given at anytime. For recommended items, see Donate Food.

Our annual neighborhood Food Drive will be on Saturday, November 22.

If you received a grocery bag to fill with non-perishable food items, please leave it outside your residence by 10 a.m. Volunteers will be picking up the bags between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

You can also drop off non-perishable food in the parking lot of the Wicomico County Civic Center between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Civic Center is located at 500 Glen Avenue, Salisbury, MD.

Our truck will be in the parking lot of St. Francis de Sales on Sunday morning, November 23, to accept all food donations. The address is 535 Riverside Drive, Salisbury, MD.

Christmas Toys and Gifts

Christmas toys and gifts are needed by December 7.

All toys and gifts should be new and unwrapped. The age range is for children up to the age of 14 years. We prefer gifts that do not require batteries. Also, we cannot accept toy guns.

Needed the most are gifts for older children between the ages of 7 and 14.

We suggest toys that will engage a child’s imagination and encourage physical activity. Some ideas: basketballs, soccer balls, etc., LEGO sets, board games, books, art supplies, crafting kits.

Or ask your favorite child!

Cold Weather Clothing

We need hats, mittens, gloves, and scarves for children of all ages.

In addition, please consider donating cold-weather items for our homeless adults who visit our Hospitality Room. They need long underwear, hoodies, hats, gloves, blankets, sleeping bags and anything else that will help them keep warm. See Other Donations.
