Remembering Gregory Dennis

On the morning of July 20, 2023, Gregory Dennis, our custodian at the Joseph House Crisis Center, was killed in a hit-and-run accident. We are deeply shocked and saddened by this tragedy.

Greg was riding his bike on his way to work when the accident happened at Route 50 and Boundary Street in Salisbury. According to police reports, Greg was hit by a vehicle and the driver allegedly failed to stop following the crash. Greg was taken to the local hospital with serious injuries, where he later died.

Greg had recently celebrated his 60th birthday. He was immersed in Scripture, led many Bible studies and prayer groups, and mentored countless people. He had worked at the Village of Hope and cooked for guests at the Salvation Army and God’s Kitchen. In his younger years he was a martial arts instructor known for his skill and self-discipline. A powerfully built man, he was truly a gentle giant. Each day, just as we were leaving the Joseph House, Greg would call out: “Be safe, kiss all the babies, watch out for the crazies!”

A candlelight vigil was held Saturday, July 22, near the place where Greg was killed. It was organized by Greg’s sisters and Pastor Barrey Livington, who was a longtime friend of Greg. Being together to share our love and memories of Greg was very comforting.

We will always remember Greg and his dedication to God and the needs of other people. He was a shining example of how we can use our gifts to make the world a better place. May Greg rest in peace in God’s Heavenly Kingdom, and may the grace of God be with all who mourn his passing.

Sr. Jennifer and Pastor Barrey Livington.

The Salisbury Police Department requests that anyone with information about the crash to call 410-548-3165 or Crime Solvers at 410-548-1776.
