Rest in Peace: Sr. Connie Ladd
With great sorrow we announce that Sr. Connie Ladd went home to the Lord on June 22, 2026. She had been a Little Sister of Jesus and Mary for 40 years. Sr. Connie never lost her joyful spirit during her brave battle with cancer. We miss her dearly.
Below is her obituary:
Sister Constance Rose Ladd, 85, of Salisbury passed into eternal life on Monday, June 22, 2026 at the Stansell Hospice House in Ocean Pines.
The only girl in a family of seven, Sister Connie was born on July 16, 1940 in Wilmington, Delaware, to John Palen Wilkinson, Jr., and Ilona Marie Wilkinson (Lencz Walter). She was raised in Glen Burnie, Maryland, and graduated from Glen Burnie High School and the Maryland State Teachers College at Towson. She taught elementary school for 15 years, the last 13 of which were in Baltimore’s inner city.
Over time, her Catholic faith became increasingly important to her. She enrolled in the Ecumenical Institute of St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore, where she received her master’s degree in theology.
Shortly thereafter, she entered the Little Sisters of Jesus and Mary. She became Local Superior of the Baltimore Mission in 1988. From 2002 to 2017, she served as Superior General of the community.
Sister Connie was known for her generous heart and her boundless hospitality to all, especially the poor. She was witty, and could spread joy in the most difficult situations. She was an excellent cook and could create a delicious, hearty dinner for a dozen people at a moment’s notice.

Sister Connie was the loving mother of Daniel Joseph Ladd, Jr. (Lurleen) and Susan Jennifer Ladd. She is grandmother to Caroline and Daniel III. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers John Palin Wilkinson, III and Robert Joseph Wilkinson.
She is survived by her community, the Little Sisters of Jesus and Mary, as well as her brothers Louis Stephen Wilkinson (Loc), Stephen Paul Wilkinson (Susan), William Richard Wilkinson (Sarah), James Patrick Wilkinson (Ann), dear friend Lynn Hoebeck Wilkinson, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 30 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Salisbury. A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. followed by the mass at 11 a.m. The Rev. Christopher LaBarge will be the celebrant. Rev. John Abrahams will concelebrate. Interment will be in Parsons Cemetery, followed by a reception in the church hall.
In remembrance of Sister and her faithful service, donations may be made to the Joseph House, P.O. Box 1755, Salisbury, MD 21802.
